Here’s some more footage I captured with the Blackmagic Pocket 4K and DJI Ronin-S combo. This test was a little different because it marked one of the first times I had the Tilta Nucleus Nano added to the rig. Let me just say—it didn’t disappoint! If you’re considering upgrading your setup, I highly recommend this addition.

The best part about this day is when this guy came running out of a garage or workshop and ‘demanded’ to know why I was filming their shop.

I said I wasn’t, that I was instead filming the telephone box (the one with the shoe on it ) to which he responded WHY?

My answer of “Why Not” wasn’t good enough for him and after a bit more awkward conversation it turns out my NOT SNEAKY AT ALL Cinematic Camera moves made him think that I was casing the joint to break in later….. Let’s recap a moment…. Full Ronin S with a pretty elaborate camera. on top and me doing the heal toe walk with huge sweeping camera motions all to ‘case a joint’ ….. You know instead of sneaking a photo with a cell phone….. I must need a haircut already or something :)

The Nucleus Nano brings a ton of convenience to an already great system. It comes with a cable to power the focus motor directly, which is a small but significant detail that makes rigging so much simpler. No more juggling extra batteries or messy cable management—just plug it in and go. Plus, the Nano includes a handy mount for a 15mm rod to support the motor. This isn’t just a practical touch; it ensures the motor stays stable and secure, giving your setup a professional, polished feel.

What really delighted me, though, was how beautifully the FIZ (Focus, Iris, Zoom) controller mounts on the Ronin-S. It’s ergonomic, intuitive, and keeps everything within reach without getting in the way of operating the gimbal. The entire system feels like it was made to work together, letting me focus on framing and movement without being distracted by technical hassles.

If you’re already using the Tilta Nucleus-M system, here’s the cherry on top: the Nano integrates seamlessly with it. It’s almost as if Tilta designed it specifically to slide right into the workflow of anyone already invested in their ecosystem. This kind of compatibility makes it a fantastic choice for those looking to expand their toolkit without creating unnecessary complications.

This setup—Blackmagic Pocket 4K, DJI Ronin-S, and Tilta Nucleus Nano—has quickly become a favourite of mine for capturing stabilized, cinematic footage. The Nano adds a level of control and ease that elevates the entire experience, making it a no-brainer for anyone serious about creating professional-quality work.
