There’s something about downtown alleys that keeps me coming back. I’ve wandered through these dozens of times, but every single visit feels like peeling back another layer of the organic layering of utterly utilitarian actions. This time, it was just me & doogie, my trusty Leica M-D, and the new Light Lens Lab 50mm lens. A minimal setup for a morning of photowandering—exactly how I like it.
And as always the alleys didn’t disappoint. From the textured chaos of graffiti-covered walls to the unexpectedly vibrant colours of yellow doors and green exits, it felt like the city was showing off. The Leica M-D paired with the Light Lens Lab lens made every frame pop—there’s a richness and subtlety to the colours that I absolutely love. It’s like the lens has a secret handshake with the light and shadow of these urban spaces.
Even in the places I’ve visited countless times, I managed to find new details—a scuffed metal garage door here, a precariously leaning pallet there. It’s this constant discovery that keeps me coming back. These alleys are a gritty mix of decay and resilience, and somehow, they always feel alive.
Each frame from this outing reminded me why I love wandering with my camera. There’s no agenda, no big plan—just an openness to what the city decides to share. Maybe it’s the textures, the unexpected pops of colour, or just the rawness of it all. Either way, I’m here for it. Until the next wander.
