Mikala & I

Lately I find myself doing a lot more music wise then I do photo wise (not to say that I am going to become a jerk with a camera /guitar/banjo/microphone or anything anytime soon) In addition to playing in our increasingly inaccurately described folk rock duo My Friend Lisa (there are four of us now) I have found my self playing with Mikala on a fairly regular basis. I have also been working on a raunchy punk rock side project with my other awesome friend Jenna (whom you may remember from this video) called “The Stank“ All that & I have been recording a few demos for other people! All in all it has been rather busy on the music front these past months.

All the while I have been tring to live up to the camera part of my jerk with a camera name though, as such this is a polaroid from Wednesday of my friend Mikala manhandling Chester!

We were working on some new material but its not quite ready for the masses yet so I will leave you with a cover of the worlds best band EVAH!!!

On this date in 2004

On this date in 2004 I shot a photo session with a Model with the pseudonym Sommers. This was shot in our fledgling studio on 109th street in E-town with a canon 10D and the cheapo kit lens that came with my first rebel film camera. I remember this shoot well because it was the first real success that I had “in studio”  I say that in quotes like that because the “studio” was a short roll of white seamless backdrop paper and  two Vivitar speed lights mounted pointing towards the ceiling one on a optical slave and the other corded to the camera. This set us was super soft light but it tended to be super foggy with the cheap kit lens. Most photos were really soft of out of focus altogether.

This was the photo shoot that drove me to seek out all I could learn about fashion photography and studio lighting.

The First Colour 4X5 Polaroids

Instead of a Write up About Recording…

Busy Busy Days

So it’s only one day after I complained that I am lazy bastard and I get to say that I am moving forward. I think that today would really qualify as at least a good step.  In fact it was a super busy day filled with pure awesome (:  The day started at the early hour of 5:30am with a bit of morning driving about while M was at her weekly cult meeting. While they were toasting kool-aid and such I was chasing the sunrise around.

…and my favorite tree in Stanley park.

Next on the list of awesome today was a photo shoot with a couple of new models that I haven’t worked with before – Leanna and Amie. We had a blast shooting with old cameras, vintage clothes, and some old furniture.

Amie out in the wilds of Vancouver and in the studio.

The same place with Leanna. These four shots are taken with my standard run of the mill Polaroid 600 Camera

I took a few rolls of film that I will drop off to the lab as well but these are a few of the digital shoots from the day.

I think we are going to do a whole fashion inspired chair in random place series.  Mostly because chairs in random places = buckets of awesome! And Buckets of Awesome is what I am all about!

Continuing right along with the awesomeness of the day, I had band jam time in which we did a few takes of our favorite songs. I managed to somehow tear my fingernail half off yesterday on the mountain so I was playing with a bandaged finger. Shan played us a hidden track from a band (I forget the name of the band) where they ‘cover’ Guns and Roses. This prompted us to start playing Bon Jovi and well it all went down hill from there. Luckily the Zoom was recording the hilarity that was our version of Dead Or Alive :)

The Film Photoshoot Day

Today I shot with a model named Alicia whom I have worked with a number of times, but always on standard ordinary commercial catalog shoots. Today I really wanted to play with all my film cameras and such so 85% of the shoot was shot on old cameras. This is a just a smattering of the few digital/Polaroid shots that I took today. I will get more up when the film gets all developed.

Some Canon 5d shots

These are from the Polaroid Land Camera shooting Fuji FP100C

More Polaroid Land Camera shooting Fuji FP100C

This is the analog product of the day. We have just about every (good) kind of film format known to man :) 120, 35, Type 600, Pack film, Type 55, etc…

Anywho I am off to a pub for food.

Playing in the studio

One of the joys of having a photostudio in your office is you can mess around with it till the wee hours of the morning drinking redbull and energy panthers.  I messed around a lot tonight but this is my favorite!

This vignetteing is actually from the background light as well as the super wide open f/1.2 50mm

Chalkboard Jerk

Well Movember is over and before I permanently shaved off the Mo I thought I would take some photos. Now being that it is highly unlikely that I will grow another mo before next year I felt it best to take a lot of photos.

This is shot in front of the studios new chalkboard wall. Yuppers I have painted a small wall in the corner of the studio with Gods gift to fun home renovations. Chalkboard Paint!!

I took so many photos that had more then enough to put together into a little stopmotion/timelapse movie

So November was a month of big ambitions and projects, but now that the month is over and done with, how did I do?

I managed to keep up and maintain with my NaBloPoMo goals all month.  I will admit there was about five or so posts that were token ‘look i have posted something’ cop out type of posts, but I am happy to say that I managed to post some sort of content for most of it. This was the easiest of my November goals because like I said before I blog nearly everyday in the winter anyway!

This was a complete failure in every way shape and form. I didn’t even get close to rocking out as much as desired/required to work my way though this.  It really sucks because this is one thing that I was really looking forward to doing.  I am going to instead make up my own December version of NaSoAlMo  Maybe I will call it ‘JerkDecNaSoAlMo’ or something.

The Studio Renovations.
All was perfectly on schedule with this! Areas of my floor and part of the brick wall still need some love and attention, but I am other wise pleased with how everything has turned out.  You should see it with all the walls painted and photos up everywhere. (photos of the spaces to come sometime)

scenes form a movie
This is still only a concept as I have had way to much on plate the last little while to go ahead and rock on with this. I have faith that it will be done soon and be awesome.

Well I actually grew something that can legitimately be called a mustache. I didn’t think my face was capable of such things, but it would seem that it was. I am glad that I did it, but I can not begin to tell you the number of times that I nearly shaved it off!!

Fashion Shoots, The Big Surprise, and other Projects
Totally remiss in all of the above here.  Again the lack of time and the need for sleep made for all of this getting kicked to the wayside.  December we hope!
