Iona Beach

So Yesterday my mother arrived in Vancouver via Westjet! So what does one do when they are out at the airport with Albertans that come from the season/land of snow & ice!? Well take em to Iona Beach of course!! I absolutly love it when I can show off our fantastic weather to all you silly Albertans that choose to stay there!

The past few weeks

So a lot has happened over the last week or so. Miranda went to Texas and hung out with the fabulous photographers, I hung out on the island with my Mom, & we bought a new camera and lens to add to the arsenal. We finally bought a 1Ds Mark II

as Miranda’s primary camera for weddings and my walk about/photo shoot camera the rest of the time. It is a fantastic body that delivers unbelievable detail. (16.7 mp tends to capture more then you realize.) We also grabbed the Canon 16-35 2.8L lens

to add to the pile of gear. This great lens goes fantastic with the full frame camera, getting as stupid wide as you can with minimal barreling is always a good thing.

Today I did a photo shoot for Marjolyn from Helmet. She had model and friends in tow to gas town where we shot a few wardrobe changes in the alleys and streets.

Camera: Canon 1Ds Mark II

Shutter: 1/60
Lens: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM @ 135mm
ISO: 320

The weather was on its reasonably good behavior (meaning it didn’t rain but it was still a little chilly) for the better part of the shoot, but it was still a little chilly to not have a jacket. We then moved in studio for a few shots in a bit more controlled environment. Good times all around. Thanks all for your help and what not!

Any who I am tired and I have a crazy cold so I am gonna crash out.

a weavey wavy boat

I am on the ferry on the way home after a couple of wonderful days on Vancouver Island. Mom’s eyes have been as big as saucers since she got here, and while I didn’t think that it was possible they got even bigger on the island. We didn’t venture to far from Victoria but she got a good tour of the area. We ventured out to China Beach and The Jordan River area. Despite a nasty cold wind we ventured on a few trails down to the water.

I am thinking that Mom has had a good time to say the least. But this typing on a weavey wavy boat is making me ill so I think I am going to cut this entry short.

Waiting at the Airport

Well here I be waiting again at the airport for my darling mother to arrive, and her flight is totally delayed. It seams totally funny to me that it is delayed because it is a clear blue sky with a totally reasonable temperature. But alas the nice weather is only for us clever ones that have moved to the land without winter. So rather then bugger off and be totally late to pick her up from her late flight, I am going to write a blog entry. I don’t have a heck of a lot to blog about so I’ll try for witty commentary on what I see around me. I think that is white trash travel day, because I am surrounded by jackasses in Harley Davidson jackets & kids squealing like there are being skinned alive. I also have to laugh at the tourists info booth that is being used for storage, because its winter here. I still don’t get why this city shuts down when “winter” comes. I mean can understand the decreased tourist traffic in the “off season” but there is a huge untapped market of tourists that want to get away for the winter but don’t want to go to Cuba. Oh well what do I know I’m little more then a tourist my self. Ah what can I say other then this city is funny about their winter, I mean there is Daffodils blooming all over the dam place and it is February.
