August Is A Great Time To Talk About Snow.

These are actually iPhone shots from the top of the sky chair from on of the few times i hit the slopes last winter. I just feel like talking about snow.

IOS 4.3 Personal Hotspot & Eye-Fi cards

For anyone that watches my flickr stream may have noticed that I have been doing a bit of a photo project for the last year or so.

Live photowandering.

Yup I walk around like I am apt to do with my camera taking photos of things, but instead of bringing them home & lovingly placing them in the vault that is my computer. (You know where they will never be seen by anyone ever again) I  can instead directly upload them (un-edited) to the internet.  How do I do this you ask? Is it  magic? is it some sort of ridiculous expensive camera technology that only pro’s could dream of affording? Nope! It is all done with my Eye-Fi Card and my iPhone. I say this like it is super easy to do and as of now it really is easy. However, it wasn’t always this way. Live uploading has been really a complicated process up till now. I have gone though a few different ways to do this over the last year or so as the programs and the tech have slowly caught up with what I want to do.

The first way involved a Laptop as an intermediary device which was heavy to carry around not to mention that Macbooks go to sleep when you close them.  Then with the introduction of MyWi & a jailbroken iPhone I could do away with the laptop but the battery life of my phone made it only viable for really short walks, even with the iPhone 4 it ate battery  life like it was delicious potato chips.  I also found that despite being built to multitask I found that MyWi would only really work if it was the active program, so I was constantly fussing with my phone. I also needed to use the specific Eye-Fi Cards that can upload via Ad-Hoc networks for both of these methods.
Now Apple has made my life super easy with IOS4.3 Thanks to you Apple for Personal Hotspot.
Thus far It is working flawlessly and is super battery friendly to just have the personal hotspot on most of the time and upload as I go.  I will hopefully be free to do some walking this weekend/next week watch the flickr/twitter to follow along.

Off to tofino.

Blogging via an iPhone because the laptop is already packed. I should get used to blogging this way for the next few days anyway as Internet may be scarce.
So we are off to Tofino today. When I say we I mean a couple of carloads of we. D A J&S K&E M&I are going to be piling into two cars and firing off to the rain soaked west coast to stay in a cramped no bedroom (just many beds/air mattresses) cabin on the ocean. Should be Tonnes O fun. So much fun that I couldn’t sleep this morning so I got up at an impossibly ridiculous hour (Darren was already up for a 1/2 hour according to Twitter.) and packed the truck. :). I keep forgetting that this is actually a work trip. We are shooting a wedding tomorrow. Should be fun and wet :)

I have packed a small recording studio and a bunch of guitars and banjos etc. D is bringing a large bag of percussion and My Friend Lisa is planning on recording some awesome.

anyway one more bag to pack and we are off.

Blogging & driving?

Yup. It was just so pretty out that I had to share.

Hanging up a Mountain

I thought that I would come and snowboard for the morning, and rub it in all your faces. Just kidding I have work to do this afternoon I just felt the need to iPhone blog

4am jackassery!!

So what started out as a quick ‘lets blast off a roll of film and see how it will cross process’ turned into an epic evening of self-portraits and general dicking about. I am setting up to do a old camera film fashion shoot this Friday and I am trying new ways of cross processing out in preparation. There is a roll of 120 film to go with these as well, but of course that will have to wait till it comes back from the lab.

I have a thing with kitchens I don’t know why I just do. The photo never works quite the way I want it to. But every once in a while I try it.

There is no rhyme or reason behind me shooting at my truck other then that was were my tripod was. There is absolutely nothing to say about the headphones other then I was in the mood. They were not plugged in to anything they just seemed like a good prop.

Here is a quad Cam shot of how I saw things really.

All right, I will take Miranda to her cult meeting and have a nap I think or perhaps stay awake and see what happens. I did plan to hit the mountain today for a bit so we will see if that works out.  I also have jam with most of the band tonight and I am super excited about that!!

Night Time Photo Wanders

So this weekend was fun.  Friday saw me sitting in traffic for hours while trying to hit cypress for a couple of hours before joining peeps at The Black Frog.  I got stuck behind this crazy trucker guy who didn’t know how tall his load was, so he decided to take hours to go under a bridge while police stopped traffic. By the time I got out of that mess I was basically due to start heading back home to meet peeps at The Frog, which was another crazy long time. So there was no snowboarding on Friday but there was eventually the Frog which was good. I drank such copious amounts of coffee that I sorta had trouble sleeping so photo wandering was had.

Saturday was filled with a bit of breakfast at Locus and a bit of work a bit of play, and a return visit to the Frog for a guys night of drinking (ie: a sausage party) where I opted for beer instead of coffee and ended up horribly drunk.

Yesterday was a do not much day. I went to Tom Lee with Darren to check out this Zoom H4 that I was thinking about buying based on a recommendation.

I played with it a bit and decided that it is exactly what I want to record jams with as well as secondary sound for indie films, but I was not ready to pay an extra 100bux because the dollar is low so I bought it online with a bunch of film instead.

Miranda and I decided to drive to Squamish just for the heck of it.

Man the Squamish Taco bell is an adventure to say the least. You have to go in to the store because you don’t get the same experience when you use the drive though. It is a ‘restaurant’ filled with people that normally would be considered to be unemployable, but for some reason they all managed to get jobs there. It is a real adventure you should try it.

Late last night I couldn’t sleep so hopped in the truck and drove about with an assortment of random cameras and took photos of random places in the dark.

iPhone cameras can be cool.

So I am not quite on the mountain just yet this morning I have a spot of work stuff to take care of so the mountain will happen soon as that all gets taken care of. :) However, I did have a bit of time to kill this morning while my lovely wife attends her weekly cult meeting so I figured that I would play a little with some iPhone camera app’s. I have a couple of new ones that are quite cool like double exposure which is an app that does what only photoshop or film can do. As the name implies it will double expose a shot for you. Neat stuff really.

The other cool app that have been using a fair amount is Steady shot. This one uses the accelerometers (sp?) in your iPhone to determine when the camera is steady and it will take it when you are holding very still and only then. Neat app to get rid of blurry photos due to camera shake So this is a shot(s) that I took of first beach just now and ran though all sorts of programs to get this. Oh cult meeting looks to be wrapping up so ya see you all on the mountain today if you are going.

Guess where this jerk is

Yup cypress. I know I am a jerk for flaunting my self employedness but
take comfort in the fact that tomorrow while you are all sleeping it
off from the night before I will be hard at work. So today I am here.

Ursus Actos Horribilis Is Serving Me Fondue and it good

Here we are at The Grizzly House in Banff having the worlds (well Alberta’s anyway) best fondue. I ordered a pint of trad and they seem to have some sort of measurement issue because this is not a pint it is a bucket. Mmmmmmm…. Fondue.
