Photo-shoot with Jenna Mack
Last week we did a fantastic (but really cold) photoshoot with Jenna Mack for her new website. We didn’t really plan anything we just grabbed some stuff and shot before the rain came back.

Rural Alberta Advantage in Vancouver
Oh Ya I went to see the Rural Alberta Advantage the other week. We have been so stupid crazy busy these past few weeks that I have totally forgotten to post about it. UN-FUCKING BELIEVABLE SHOW!!! Despite drinking far to many Pilsner and getting into it with a random douche in the front and then a doubly douchey bouncer as they were playing ‘Goodnight’ It was the best show I have seen this year. (Followed very closely by the pixies this last week) I am so glad that i was able to make this work this time around. I have been scheduled for a shoot or something equally un-movable every time they have been here before. I would have killed to see them at the Biltmore last year but alas work tends to keep me in expensive guitars and fancy cameras. So yup that :)
So no the best photos but alas I was super stupid drunk :) so Ummmm that is an excuse yes? Fun any way!

My Favourite photo!!
Playing Good Night in the middle of the floor!
Steph Macpherson & Michael Benard Fitzgerald Show
Last night after we played an online My Friend Lisa Show we hauled our asses out & to see Steph MacPherson & Michael Benard Fitzgerald play at the Biltmore. Man! What a great show! :) Steph MacPherson and her crew put on an awesome opening act complete with banjos! (everything is better with banjos) MBF also put on a stellar show! this was the first time I have seen him play live with a backing band. Previous times have always been him solo with a looper pedal. The double drummer thing he had going on was spectacular to say the least! I didn’t get to many (aright it was just one) photos of MBF mostly because I didn’t want to elbow my way up to the front, that and I may have been just a little drunk. :)

On the way home (thanks Shan for driving!) we stopped at the McDonald’s on Main street near terminal. What a horrible idea that was in so many ways. The first being that I hate McDonald’s & rarely eat it. In fact the only two times in the last year that I have eaten McDonald’s I was drunk coming home from the Biltmore. Curious :) However, that said what an awesome place McDonald’s is at 2am on a weekday. We somehow (I say we but really I mean Me) managed to offend a trollish woman to the point of leaving, eat a whole Big Mac on an empty beer filled stomach, and start up a random conversation with a sun glass wearing, (it was 2AM) safety vest clad, cart pushing, hobo who insisted that we invited him in to the McDick’s (which we didn’t do) and that he had a lot to add to our earlier conversation about E.T.s (which we didn’t have) In which he Insisted that Sarah Palin was in fact an E.T. and that given a moment or two he could prove it. We didn’t give him his moment, we instead left, quickly, after loudly clapping our (my) hands one last time in order to wake the odd man who was sleeping face down in the corner booth.
All in all it was a good night :)
No commentsOh ya I have video fun for you all.
Now because I always assume that everyone that reads my blog, is also religiously following my every move/whim on twitter, as well as reading all about My musical escapades with My Friend Lisa, I often forget to mention the other things that I am doing with my time outside of blogging random photos with little to no explanations.
I am in a band. It is fun, I love it & in getting the new camera I find myself flexing my old filmmaker muscles. As such we did a super quick off the floor video cut of us playing one of our original songs.
All shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 85mm lens. Super fun!!
Yup there was a time that I called my self a filmmaker. Around the time that I started blogging was when I was on my way out of film making and into photography.
This is a video that I made in 2000 using an analog 8mm camera and captured analog into a 300 mHz computer with 128mgs of ram and edited in Adobe Premiere. It would take days to render out the effects that I was rocken and when I wasn’t happy with something I would change it and then re-render it for days again. I won an award from the local film society and everything. But this is what I wanted to do with my life. make silly art films about nothing in particular. Long story short I became a photog instead. :)
What amazed me was things I was searching for 10 years ago are here now! Things like super shallow DOF, super easy editing, & among other things, simply super good looking video footage.
I talked to My guy down at Vistek yesterday (yup when you drop fat cash you get a guy) and he said that the mark iv is set to arrive some time next week. So I should have it in my grubby fingers very soon! :)
But I need to pack for snowbaording awesome now! See ya on the mountains :)

Hot Hot Heat wouldn’t get of stage
I was sick for days
Didn’t get to see The Weakerthans but I had two tries :(
thats it thats all.
Shonen Knife + Friends = Awesome!
So last night we decided that work is for chumps and rolled on out to Richards On Richards to see Shonen Knife & Friends. What an Awesome show! Verona Grove was the first band to hit the stage.
Next was The Juliet Dagger who was actually my favorite band of the evening! (don’t get me wrong I loved Shonen Knife but these guys kicked ass!!) The really reminded me in a odd way of a E-town band that I used to see called Nothing At All (who has reformed as a Vancouver band called Careworn)
Last was Shonen Knife and they did impress! Props to a band that has been rockin out for this long!
All said it was a good time and it was a night out that I have been kinda needing!

White Stripes
So I was able to Smuggle in a camera to the White Stripes Show last night at Deer Lake Park, and man was it a good show.

Busy 24 hours
So it has been a busy 24 hours for me. Last night after our wedding was done Josh & I went for a midnight scoot. Took a few photos in the dark of night.

Rode a few trails and avoided getting caught up in a crazy ‘bush party’ in Stanley park.
This was Miranda when I told her how many photos we shot at our wedding! :)

Breakfast at the tomahawk this morning, followed by more aimless scooting.

This is so foreign to me

The White stripes rocked

Ahhh I was promised Nickleback would be playing?
my made up thoughts about this random guy from V-Fest yesterday. I thought it was funny!

V-fest was awesome despite the rain! (I secretly love standing in the rain especially with the hydrophobic power of corduroy! don’t ask) Rise against played an awesome set! We are getting ready to go again today this time I am going to smuggle in a 75-300 lens so I can get some decent shots with out abandoning every one to hang out in the steamy crowd at the front.

My only complaint yesterday that was conveniently alleviated by the beer gardens (I mean really what can’t be conveniently alleviated by beer gardens) was the number of really young children! Running around and being children (I hate children) I felt really bad for the ice-cream girl yesterday. She stood dutifully by her cart all afternoon when no one was buying any ice cream. Today they have promised us sunshine so we will see how it goes.

Show was good but i am sorta wiped!
Its not a show unless there is an act of near nakedness.
Well I went to see Art Brut at Richards on Richards tonight with Darren. They played a great show and I what not, the opening ‘band’ was a little more interesting however. Gil Mantera’s Party Dream is some band from Ohio that we lets say is a little on the odd side of things.

The entire set was like this. Prancing around and the slow decay of their wardrobe till they well were prancing around and singing like this

Art Brut was a bit more civilized when it came to there wardrobe. No near nakedness here

The new camera preformed stellar in the worse light I was able to get a lot of great shots.

But I am falling asleep at the keyboard…..
