I’ve been getting into 3D printing lately….

Yes, this is a post about photography. trust me and stick it out for the ride.

I have been trying to teach myself Blender so I can design my own 3D models instead of just hoping that other people have created the things that I want to create. And there is no better way to learn then just building something so I have been starting other all off by trying to make custom Cases that have a hidden AirTag for some of my many cameras. It seems the appropriate challenge as it is making something useful and requires real life measurements and has a practical purpose. That and my pretty niche cameras have very few folks creating models out there so I figure I would give it a shot.

To build these cases I need to measure the cameras, so I pulled out the Leica M Monochrom Typ 246 to measure it up and create a model for it. First try was definitely a learning curve resulting in me forgetting which side was the front and which the back meaning that I managed to get the cut outs for the lens and buttons on the left side rather than the right side meaning it was like it was in a mirror :)

Anyway that is a different post that I might get around to writing. suffice it to say that the camera was in my bag so after dropping the kiddos off this morning I went for a walk. A short walk. really short actually because It was -1°C. and snowing and I am a WUSS :)

The Monochom was a good call though because the world already seemed drained of colour. Kinda like the world had pre-positioned itself for a black and white wander.

In a quick wander around the block I found many things that I have photographed many times before but today I was out before the working world was up and at them. So I was able to grab photos of Storefront windows, reflecting chandeliers, the dry cleaner with rows of plastic-wrapped jackets under fluorescent tubes, black mailboxes, empty parking lots with out any humans in the way :)

Cold air. Quiet streets. Straight lines and empty Parking Lots. All because I needed to measure a camera body for an AirTag case. SEE! I Told you it was all connected.
