It snowed three days ago. THREE. And it was just today that I finally had a chance to go play in it. The first time. Also for me playing in the snow really means go out in the world with a camera and pick on all the miserable folks that have to trudge through it all to do their day to day.

Life has been a bit of a whirlwind these days and to be honest I am not even sure that can really say why, by the time I looked up from the chaos, the snow was still there but looking like that guy at the party who was done a few hours ago but is still hanging on, you know kinda slushy, kinda questionable.

So partly because I was lazy and partly because I didn’t have a ton of time, I decided to hit up Denman Street which is pretty quick for me to get to and it is always a solid place for taking photos of people doing all those people like things.

Since the Hasselblad 503CXI was in the shop with the fine folk over at Factory Cameras getting a much needed tune-up, I grabbed my big olde DSLR the Canon 1DX Mark III (which I also feel needs an awesome name, comment your suggestions below) and my trusty Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSD Art lens. A little different than the normal fair that I have been shooting with, but hey fun in the sun (or in this case, fun in the cold, damp, and miserable slush)

Basically I wandered up and down Denman for about two hours before the cold really started creeping in. Having grown up in northern Alberta where -30 and -40 were pretty commonplace I feel like I should have my passport revoked for complaining about -1 and I feel ridiculous saying it but I think that a pair of heated gloves are in my future.

As always I captured my standard mix of Urban decay and Back Alley Glory as well as my standard Picking On Complete Strangers style of street photography, people bundled up, random cold folk sad with the weather they have to navigate, some classic Vancouver contrast—snow-covered sidewalks next to palm trees and the ocean side neighbourhood.

Here are a few captures from the day. A little snow, a little city, and a bit of embarrassment for being cold in what would have been t-shrt weather where I grew up :)
