False Creek Fuji styles!!
Ya you should all head on down to false creek near the Expo ball to see the inukshuks that people are building in mass on the beach. My Fuji Instax Polaroid camera says so.

Fujifilm Instax 210
So I picked up a new camera today. I finally found a new Fuji Instax 210 for non-lomography Prices!:)
I tried this camera out today while we walked about the North Vancouver pier today. Pretty awesome on sunny days :)

Update: I was at Beau Photo yesterday and i happen to notice that they have all the film and these cameras for sale! Didn’t see prices but they have in stock!
No commentsIt again has been a busy week.
I know that I keep saying this stuff and keep saying that I am going to get less busy and that whole not so busy thing never seems to happen. BUT I am hoping that next week will be different. This week has been a whirlwind of meeting people, officially unpacking, organizing stuff, & getting our studio ready for a two day workshop. Yuppers we have been host to nearly 100 different peeps in two separate all day sessions from a Southern California photog named becker. It has been great to meet peeps and have awesome lunch/dinners with you all.

I nearly killed myself trying to get the house in order for these two days so I think that i need some sort of a vacation. Conveniently tomorrow I am crammin on to a bus and headed out to Big White for the weekend. So many thanks to Allie for setting this trip up!! Hopefully super swell snow, (I am sure it will be better then here) there will be lots of beer, 50ish cool peeps that I don’t know but I am going to meet. ohhh & beer, did I mention beers, I like beers!
I am at a loss as to what I should take for gear because I am not taking my Xterra so taking my normal everything is not really an option. The 3-5 different types of film cameras & the 2 polaroid cameras in addition to a digital kit that I would normally take places may be a bit overkill :) My goal is to just walk downtown to where I meet the bus so if I cant carry it there with my board, boots, & clothes then it is probably to much stuff :)
Anywho… Here is “the intern” who is not an intern any more, but a full fledged employee, rockin out in blue polaroid form.

See ya on the flip side!
No commentsYet Another New Film Camera For This Jerks Collection
Today I was drug out to a rummage sale of sorts at the Croatian Cultural Centre. At said rummage sale I discovered this beauty which I managed to haggle the seller down a little bit for.

It is a feature rich SLR for being made in 1982. It has shutters from Bulb to 1/1000, 2 stops of exposure compensation, a wicked metering system, & if I was feeling particularly lazy Auto mode. It is remarkably both small & light for an older SLR camera. It looks as though it was hardly used and it even came with a nifty leather case. :) I will drop of the first roll shot though it in the AM to Custom Color.

The First Colour 4X5 Polaroids
As promised I have played a little bit with the 4×5 Omega! Here is the first and only color Polaroid to come out of it :)

Impromptu My Friend Lisa band photo!

No commentsYay Chocolate!!
Who doesn’t like chocolate!? Communists that’s Who! There are some chocolate polaroid film goodness from our trip to Tofino!!
Here we have pumpkins from Cathedral Grove.

The Fire alarm from our boat home.

We are back from Tofino…
…and all I can show you all is some Polaroids. It seems that Port Alberi has an old timey drive in.

We stopped there twice for yummy burgers and the like.
No commentsBusy Busy Days
So it’s only one day after I complained that I am lazy bastard and I get to say that I am moving forward. I think that today would really qualify as at least a good step. In fact it was a super busy day filled with pure awesome (: The day started at the early hour of 5:30am with a bit of morning driving about while M was at her weekly cult meeting. While they were toasting kool-aid and such I was chasing the sunrise around.

Harry Jerome Statue with with morning in the back ground…

…and my favorite tree in Stanley park.
Next on the list of awesome today was a photo shoot with a couple of new models that I haven’t worked with before – Leanna and Amie. We had a blast shooting with old cameras, vintage clothes, and some old furniture.

Amie out in the wilds of Vancouver and in the studio.

The same place with Leanna. These four shots are taken with my standard run of the mill Polaroid 600 Camera
I took a few rolls of film that I will drop off to the lab as well but these are a few of the digital shoots from the day.

I think we are going to do a whole fashion inspired chair in random place series. Mostly because chairs in random places = buckets of awesome! And Buckets of Awesome is what I am all about!
Continuing right along with the awesomeness of the day, I had band jam time in which we did a few takes of our favorite songs. I managed to somehow tear my fingernail half off yesterday on the mountain so I was playing with a bandaged finger. Shan played us a hidden track from a band (I forget the name of the band) where they ‘cover’ Guns and Roses. This prompted us to start playing Bon Jovi and well it all went down hill from there. Luckily the Zoom was recording the hilarity that was our version of Dead Or Alive :)
5 commentsI Am So Excited
I am super excited today for all sorts of reasons. I meet with a new model today that I am excited to work with her, I have shoots lined up this week and next with all sorts of exciting ideas floating about. I have five rolls of film awesome that will be ready to be picked up in an hour or two! I have a mostly free day tomorrow (as long as I get my shit together today) and Cypress has gotten a fresh 15cm of snow in the last 24 hours on top of the 15-20cm it got over the weekend. The dot com of for the bands website came available, and I was able to snag it. The Zoom H4 is super awesome in many ways, and I was feed a chocolate croissant this morning by the ever awesome Tracy. So ya super excited!!
It may also have something to do with the chocolate and the 3 (working on the 4th) ridiculously large coffee’s that I have already had while being out and about as well as the better part of a pot that I drank at home, but I am choosing to disregard that all and just be excited for the sake of excitement.
Even hanging out in a truck on Broadway for an hour while M meets with some of her cult members and the fact that I have a tonne of work to do today can do nothing to ruin my excitement!
In fact even the fact that the rewind motor on the EOS 3 bit the dust on Friday when it jammed while rewinding some redscale can do little to temper my mood (: I am off to Burnaby after all the Kool-Aid had been drunk over here to hit the other lab, but then it is all about the working for me!! I did pick up some other random film when I was dropping of Friday awesomeness and discovered that a few of my midnight Mamiya x-pro selfies worked out kinda awesome. I am so excited to see what comes of the Tungsten film xpro that I took on Friday.

The Film Photoshoot Day
Today I shot with a model named Alicia whom I have worked with a number of times, but always on standard ordinary commercial catalog shoots. Today I really wanted to play with all my film cameras and such so 85% of the shoot was shot on old cameras. This is a just a smattering of the few digital/Polaroid shots that I took today. I will get more up when the film gets all developed.

Some Canon 5d shots

These are from the Polaroid Land Camera shooting Fuji FP100C

Type 600 shot on the SX70

More Polaroid Land Camera shooting Fuji FP100C

This is the analog product of the day. We have just about every (good) kind of film format known to man :) 120, 35, Type 600, Pack film, Type 55, etc…
Anywho I am off to a pub for food.
5 comments4am jackassery!!
So what started out as a quick ‘lets blast off a roll of film and see how it will cross process’ turned into an epic evening of self-portraits and general dicking about. I am setting up to do a old camera film fashion shoot this Friday and I am trying new ways of cross processing out in preparation. There is a roll of 120 film to go with these as well, but of course that will have to wait till it comes back from the lab.

I have a thing with kitchens I don’t know why I just do. The photo never works quite the way I want it to. But every once in a while I try it.

There is no rhyme or reason behind me shooting at my truck other then that was were my tripod was. There is absolutely nothing to say about the headphones other then I was in the mood. They were not plugged in to anything they just seemed like a good prop.

Here is a quad Cam shot of how I saw things really.

All right, I will take Miranda to her cult meeting and have a nap I think or perhaps stay awake and see what happens. I did plan to hit the mountain today for a bit so we will see if that works out. I also have jam with most of the band tonight and I am super excited about that!!
The Impossible Project!
Just 29,630,127 seconds to go…. except this is a countdown clock that I can really get behind!. Introducing The Impossible Project. this is something that i will be watching very closely for the next year. It would seem that some people have decided to try and pick up where polaroid left off!!
“We aim to re-start production of analog for vintage Polaroid cameras in 2010. We have acquired Polaroid’s old equipment, factory and seek your support.”
“Impossible b.v. has been founded with the concrete aim to re-invent and re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras…. Impossible b.v. has acquired the complete film production equipment in Enschede (NL) from Polaroid, has signed a 10-year lease agreement on the factory building; and has engaged the most experienced team of Integral Film experts worldwide.”
WOW THIS IS AWESOME!!!
This is looking to be what I falsely hoped polapremium was going to be, instead of the one off/old stock, money grab that unsaleable slapped out there. The Impossible folks are upfront about what they are doing and if i dare say they look as though they are the answer to keeping integral (IE type 600) polaroid in our lives for the long term. Go check out the site… send them feedback…give em shout outs on your blogs….lets make sure that these folks can at least make a run of it.
Polapremium… My final thoughts.
I know i just posted, but this started as a reply comment on this post, but it turned into a long rant So I figured it should be its own post.
I thought long and hard about Polapremium this morning and I ended up even more disappointed. I was looking for long term and I instead affronted with just how temporary it all is. I have a rule, if it costs more then $3.00 a shot I need to be making good money at it, or it better knock my socks off in some other way. Most things that I would buy from Polapremium unfortunately doesn’t meet that code. I don’t mind spending extra to support people/businesses doing cool things, but I think I will take all the money that I could have spent at polapremium and use it to buy more of Fuji’s instant stock on a long term regular basis. My feeling is, lets support the long term guy, the guy who is going to be around for a while. I am going to stick with my normally attractive and funny long term girlfriend, instead of dumping her for a fleeting romance with a super model with a coke habit that will last an intense week, but be left in the end with nothing but heartbreak and regret.
My Omega 4×5, the 360 Land camera, and I will happily shoot our Fuji FP100C with fantastic results and well into the foreseeable future.
7 commentsA Man In Brown Brought Me A Box Of Film Goodness!!
Yuppers what I say is true, a man in brown (incidentally the same man that sold me my Felt MP, he even remembers it and asked if I was going to ride it today cause it is supposed to be super nice out!) brought me a box of film goodness. Which is a really nice way to start out a week, especially when the previous week ended with a 20hr out of town wedding adventure followed by another 10hr wedding a short 10 hours apart! (what i am trying to say here is i am tired)
As mentioned earlier last week Beau Photo is raping us all for Polaroid film because they can I guess, so I ordered a bucket of film from the good old USA (just doing my part to help them in this time of need). More specifically, I ordered from B&H photo.

This will all make a wonderful addition to the newly cleaned and re-purposed Jerk Film & Beer Fridge Yup I feel like a real adult when I have a fridge that is not filled with food, but it instead is filled with glorious film goodness and beer!! That means you are a responsible adult right?

(for those of you that are all like, What do you eat man if your fridge is nothing but beer and film?, I have two fridges)

Here we have a random variety box of film. Some of these films are new, some are from back when we used to use film as our back up solution at weddings so nearly 4 to 5 years old, and other stuff like the Ilford roll in the back that says 620 Expired in 1956. (I am going to respool it one of these days and see what we can get from it!) so a box of fun is what it is!
1 commentDouble Vision
So last weekend sometime J and I went for a film photo wander around Broadway and such! One of the many rolls that I shot that day was a roll of 35mm colour neg film. (Kodak Portra 160VC to be exact) I shot the entire roll with nothing but nature in mind, rewound the roll and then reloaded it and handed it to J to shoot. I said shoot anything but nature.

There is some good time here I tell ya! I think that we are going to have to dual shoot more in other random cameras.
