Olympic 2010 Photowander – Robson Street

Yuppers more of my go Olympic things and take non-Olympic photos :)

This shot was taken from what can only be described as the heart of downtown Vancouver. I was standing on the centre of Robson Granville street. Something i could only do with out dodging traffic because of the Olympic street Closures. Thank you Olympics.

More Olympic 2010 Photowander – Granville Island

More photos from the adventures that @tryllbee & I had yesterday at Granville Island. I had forgotten just how much I enjoy shooting Black & White, and I almost never shoot digital with the intention of making it Black & White. If i am shooting black & white it is almost always when I am shooting with film, but I am learning to really enjoy shooting digital B&W in camera with the colour option if i desire.

Olympic 2010 Photowander – Granville Island

Today was an awesome day. I got up early for breakfast with @coaxial & @tryllbee at the second best cheap b-fast eats in Vancity, Paul’s Place. MMMMmmmm… Then @trylbee & I photo wandered about Granville island for many hours, Super Chill, Super Fun. Then I thought that I lost a card wallet with eight 8gig cards in it which sorta was a downer, but then I found it and all was happy again, & then I discovered that it wasn’t Sunday like I thought but actually Saturday, meaning there was a complete other weekend day left, then we all went for Vietnamese food, then we watched the spotlight thingy in English bay, then we had Hot Chocolate and I was happy and it was fun! :)

Blue Sky!

I am not going to be one of those people that tells you that is rains all the time here but it does rain a lot in the winter. So when you get t-shirt/blue sky weather in February, you go out and take photos of it.

Day-313Day-240Day-143

I do heart North Vancouver.

I woke up this morning totally feeling refreshed like i had epically overslept. I started cursing my self for over sleeping then my alarm went off. That is an awesome start to a day

Random Junk In Valley Antique Stores

We are always looking for mismatched chairs, decent record players, and random old cameras like My Nikon FG. As such we tend to wander about thrift & second hand stores, as well as so called “antique stores” threw out the lower mainland.

I heart the green and orange cups mostly because when I was a kid we would go to my granddad’s for coffee and he would give me hot chocolate and cookies via one of these very same cups.

I recently just bought one of these egg beaters which (involving a long story) also takes me back to my youth.

I heart junk it makes such great photo fodder. However, we came home empty handed.

This was also the first real world test of auto uploading via the EYE-Fi Card and it seemed to work rather well. I am not uploading every single photo I take because that would be silly. I often shoot at silly low apertures of 1.2 and such so focus can be a bit of a tough one, so I take a few to be sure that what I want is in focus. But other then choosing what photos make it to the internet I am not editing. Which is funny because it makes me really realize that I always take photos slightly slanted to the right. I know this & I will often fix them in post. God times anyway when I get a chance i will play with the flickr API and see what fun ways I can display them to the world :)

I had forgotten about how much filming goes on in this neighbourhood

Yuppers it has been crazy to get to and from my home the last little while. Might be because they are filming like mad men before the Olympics.

It Came!

Now I know that I just got a new camera but everyone look at my new new camera! Truth be told they were purchased at the same time just that this one wasn’t available till now :)

This is what I would call a sorry excuse for an initial review. It’s awesome!

To be more specific it is everything that my 1D Mark II was for me, with less buttons, a bigger screen, stupidly high/usable ISO’s, all that and it does video in 30p 24p and 60p.

Canon EOS 1d Mark IV

My New Canon EOS 1d Mark IV

mark IV-001

I also got an Eye Fi card so I can do some live photo wandering action during the Olympics & such. I am using my tethered iPhone to auto-upload every photo that I take, as I take it though out my wandering about. You can see what I am up to by hitting this flickr set! I think this is a really neat way to photowalk but I must confess I am also doing this because I am tired of hearing questions about what photoshoping I did & what photoshop filter did you use for your colour & insert random question about post work… & …stuff… So here you have it live from a jerk out & about in the world.

Eye Fi Card

The other advantage is that my photos are roughly geo-tagged with was something I was doing using software & GPS tracks from my iPhone. Only it was a multi-step process with means that it didn’t happen as often as it should have.

My initial thoughts on the Eye-Fi card are neat but a spot slow. I haven’t played much past that.

I was going to toss together a sample video of the 24p etc but DSLR video is DSLR video really. Its not like you can see the missing 6fps or that the quality is noticeably better when viewed on the web so you will get one when I get to it. The fact that they do video is neat but it is not the real reason that I bought the camera. I bought it to be a photo camera. Funny That! :)

These are from yesterdays walk about. It was so silly nice out one has to take advantage of it with walk abouts? Don’t they?East Side

I am hoping to explore that area more and more in coming weeks, but for now I am off the Custom Colour to drop off Yesterdays Nikon FG film.

Yet Another New Film Camera For This Jerks Collection

Today I was drug out to a rummage sale of sorts at the Croatian Cultural Centre. At said rummage sale I discovered this beauty which I managed to haggle the seller down a little bit for.

Mucking-about-025Mucking-about-033

It is a feature rich SLR for being made in 1982. It has shutters from Bulb to 1/1000, 2 stops of exposure compensation, a wicked metering system, & if I was feeling particularly lazy Auto mode. It is remarkably both small & light for an older SLR camera. It looks as though it was hardly used and it even came with a nifty leather case. :) I will drop of the first roll shot though it in the AM to Custom Color.

Under the Bridge

The one that I Love about the Vancouver is that there bridges are quite assessable. In other cities and places it can often be some what of a challenge to get under bridges with out parking 20 blocks away and going for a walk. Over the years I have developed a small obsession with the undersides of bridges. :) Perhaps I was some sort of troll in a past life.

Lions Gate Bridge

In other news the tracking number states that my new 5D mark II is on route to me as we speak. Come on Mr. Purolator man. Bring me some awesome :)
