I Am Currently Drunk In Cuba Right Now So You Still Get Pre-Recorded Content

I am currently basking on a warm beach with a cold Bucanero in my hand & well if you are reading this you’re not. Now because I am in the wondrous land of overly complicated internet, I am going to future post a few things for you all to read/look at while I am gone.

These photos are from the Olympic Village Community Centre bathroom. I am sure that this sign is there because the water is grey water recycled from the other buildings and they could get sued if some one drank it, but really you needed a sign to let me know that drinking from a urinal is not a good idea. Proof that people are all idiots and we live in a horrible litigation society!

Rural Alberta Advantage in Vancouver

Oh Ya I went to see the Rural Alberta Advantage the other week. We have been so stupid crazy busy these past few weeks that I have totally forgotten to post about it. UN-FUCKING BELIEVABLE SHOW!!!  Despite drinking far to many Pilsner and getting into it with a random douche in the front and then a doubly douchey bouncer as they were playing ‘Goodnight’ It was the best show I have seen this year. (Followed very closely by the pixies this last week) I am so glad that i was able to make this work this time around. I have been scheduled for a shoot or something equally un-movable every time they have been here before. I would have killed to see them at the Biltmore last year but alas work tends to keep me in expensive guitars and fancy cameras. So yup that :)

So no the best photos but alas I was super stupid drunk :) so Ummmm that is an excuse yes? Fun any way!

My Favourite photo!!
Playing Good Night in the middle of the floor!

Yachica C

This year’s Camera Show & Swap was basically the exact same as it was last year. A lot of the same camera gear at the same ridiculous prices. I did find a table that was some old camera guys son who was trying to unload the ‘camera junk’ his father had collected for 30 years. I bought this Yashica C TLR from him for a steal. I have been looking for a good TLR replacement since the demise of the Seagull & I think that i have found It.

I think that is awesome the this is an Ex-Etown Camera. (McBain Camera is the Lens & Shutter of Edmonton) that makes it kinda more personalized.

Here are nine shots from the first test roll that I took.

I love it. It seems to produce really sharp contrast filled images. I will be taking it to cuba and we will see what I can get from that.

Lets add a Bigsby on my Epiphone Les Paul

I have been looking at my Epiphone Les Paul as of late and thinking you know I think that this Guitar with all the trimmings needs a bit more bling!

I found very little information about adding bigsby’s to anything little lone a Les paul. So after much research I discovered a couple of neat things about adding the tremolo, but first Lets looks at adding some knob bling.

The Guitar Before all the Mods

Adding indicators.

I looked at replacing the Knobs with squared off Gibson type knobs and was able to hook some up for nearly nothing on ebay, however the knobs sat quite high of the top so I stuck with the high hat knobs that came with the Epipi. I did however subtle it is add some knob indicators (again hooked up via ebay) which despite being so subtle I think its adds a lot.

Next I had to de-string the guitar to pull of the tail piece.

One of my hesitations about adding the Bigsby to the epiphone was the screwing it down to the top of the guitar. While the epiphone is not a $3500-$6000 Gibson Les Paul, I did pay enough money for it that I wasn’t really interested in screwing shit permanently to the top of the guitar. After a bit of research I discovered Vibramate. Vibramate is a company that makes adapters for adding bigsbys to a variety of guitars. You bolt the adapter to bolt holes from the tail piece and then screw the Bigsby to the adapter. genius really! It does set the tremolo up off the top a little bit but it is totally removable with no permenate damage.

I am super happy with the out come but one last thing I should have gotten before starting this was a roller bridge. Even with flat wounds the strings do catch on the existing bridge and can cause some tuning issues.

I made a bowl – I will use it for my many keys.

As I have said before, I don’t appear to have quite enough hobbies in my life so I have taken up yet another one to fill up all those pesky free moments that I may have in-between sleeping & eating :) I have mentioned before I am sure about how awesome the building is that we live in, what with it’s 7000+ Square foot Amenities building and all. In this building is all manner of completely wicked awesome things ranging from Wood Working & Metal Working shops to three music rehearsal spaces. (you may have seen My Friend Lisa Jam there) There is also a full sized (by full sized I mean the biggest that I have ever worked in) Darkroom complete with colour 4×5 enlargers, digital neg scanners, and large format printers. There is as well as an awesome pottery studio with four wheels & three Kilns of varying sizes.  Which brings me to the new hobby that I have undertaken, Pottery!  I wouldn’t go so far to say that I know anything really about pottery and this bowl while I am proud of it was simply the only one out of 5 that survived :)

An out take from a headshot session

This is as shot (i cropped it quickly in photoshop) I had my high contrast settings all set in my camera and snapped about 6-7 frames before I realized it. While not at all a good head shot photo I loved the super high saturation/contrast of this photo!
