The Film Photoshoot Day
Today I shot with a model named Alicia whom I have worked with a number of times, but always on standard ordinary commercial catalog shoots. Today I really wanted to play with all my film cameras and such so 85% of the shoot was shot on old cameras. This is a just a smattering of the few digital/Polaroid shots that I took today. I will get more up when the film gets all developed.

Some Canon 5d shots

These are from the Polaroid Land Camera shooting Fuji FP100C

Type 600 shot on the SX70

This is the analog product of the day. We have just about every (good) kind of film format known to man :) 120, 35, Type 600, Pack film, Type 55, etc…
Anywho I am off to a pub for food.
7 commentsBand Jams and the Zoom H4
So yesterday was the first revisit of ‘the band’. Yup ‘the band’! You haven’t heard me talk about ‘the band’ in while, mostly because we have all been busy and there was little happening on that front. Well not anymore! We are no longer ‘the band’, we have a name and we are even soon to have a website and everything. (soon being a relative term meaning as soon as I get off my ass and do something productive with that, what I should say is we have a url) Yuppers I would like to introduce you to ‘My Friend Lisa‘
So we got together last night at this jerks studio and sat around my office hashing though the 4.5 songs we have. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it was really hard seeing that we haven’t jammed together since November and most of this stuff hasn’t been touched since then.

You would have some thing to hear possibly if my new H4 had arrived before then. But it did arrive today and i recorded a little snippit to see how well it worked and man alive it is awesome!!
Take a listen that is just in the middle of our living room with the trains rattling on out side and such. AWESOME!!!
Now I’m off to a business function in shorts, tshirt, and weakerthans hoodie. Woot!
2 commentsHanging up a Mountain
I thought that I would come and snowboard for the morning, and rub it in all your faces. Just kidding I have work to do this afternoon I just felt the need to iPhone blog
3 commentsLooks like a perfectly good jacket
Seriously a little tide to go and a spot of steam and that there is half a classy job interview outfit just waiting to happen.

4am jackassery!!
So what started out as a quick ‘lets blast off a roll of film and see how it will cross process’ turned into an epic evening of self-portraits and general dicking about. I am setting up to do a old camera film fashion shoot this Friday and I am trying new ways of cross processing out in preparation. There is a roll of 120 film to go with these as well, but of course that will have to wait till it comes back from the lab.

I have a thing with kitchens I don’t know why I just do. The photo never works quite the way I want it to. But every once in a while I try it.

There is no rhyme or reason behind me shooting at my truck other then that was were my tripod was. There is absolutely nothing to say about the headphones other then I was in the mood. They were not plugged in to anything they just seemed like a good prop.

Here is a quad Cam shot of how I saw things really.

All right, I will take Miranda to her cult meeting and have a nap I think or perhaps stay awake and see what happens. I did plan to hit the mountain today for a bit so we will see if that works out. I also have jam with most of the band tonight and I am super excited about that!!
Electrical Back Alley Randomness
I am going to start running electrical conduit to random places.

On a tottaly differnt note I am super excited to see some new snow on Cypress even if it is really a token amount. My plan is to head up tomorrow and see what the mountian is like.
No commentsNight Time Photo Wanders
So this weekend was fun. Friday saw me sitting in traffic for hours while trying to hit cypress for a couple of hours before joining peeps at The Black Frog. I got stuck behind this crazy trucker guy who didn’t know how tall his load was, so he decided to take hours to go under a bridge while police stopped traffic. By the time I got out of that mess I was basically due to start heading back home to meet peeps at The Frog, which was another crazy long time. So there was no snowboarding on Friday but there was eventually the Frog which was good. I drank such copious amounts of coffee that I sorta had trouble sleeping so photo wandering was had.

Saturday was filled with a bit of breakfast at Locus and a bit of work a bit of play, and a return visit to the Frog for a guys night of drinking (ie: a sausage party) where I opted for beer instead of coffee and ended up horribly drunk.
Yesterday was a do not much day. I went to Tom Lee with Darren to check out this Zoom H4 that I was thinking about buying based on a recommendation.
I played with it a bit and decided that it is exactly what I want to record jams with as well as secondary sound for indie films, but I was not ready to pay an extra 100bux because the dollar is low so I bought it online with a bunch of film instead.
Miranda and I decided to drive to Squamish just for the heck of it.

Man the Squamish Taco bell is an adventure to say the least. You have to go in to the store because you don’t get the same experience when you use the drive though. It is a ‘restaurant’ filled with people that normally would be considered to be unemployable, but for some reason they all managed to get jobs there. It is a real adventure you should try it.

quad cam shot of the taco bell
Late last night I couldn’t sleep so hopped in the truck and drove about with an assortment of random cameras and took photos of random places in the dark.

Playing in the studio
One of the joys of having a photostudio in your office is you can mess around with it till the wee hours of the morning drinking redbull and energy panthers. I messed around a lot tonight but this is my favorite!

This vignetteing is actually from the background light as well as the super wide open f/1.2 50mm
2 commentsThe Impossible Project!
Just 29,630,127 seconds to go…. except this is a countdown clock that I can really get behind!. Introducing The Impossible Project. this is something that i will be watching very closely for the next year. It would seem that some people have decided to try and pick up where polaroid left off!!
“We aim to re-start production of analog for vintage Polaroid cameras in 2010. We have acquired Polaroid’s old equipment, factory and seek your support.”
“Impossible b.v. has been founded with the concrete aim to re-invent and re-start production of analog INTEGRAL FILM for vintage Polaroid cameras…. Impossible b.v. has acquired the complete film production equipment in Enschede (NL) from Polaroid, has signed a 10-year lease agreement on the factory building; and has engaged the most experienced team of Integral Film experts worldwide.”
WOW THIS IS AWESOME!!!
This is looking to be what I falsely hoped polapremium was going to be, instead of the one off/old stock, money grab that unsaleable slapped out there. The Impossible folks are upfront about what they are doing and if i dare say they look as though they are the answer to keeping integral (IE type 600) polaroid in our lives for the long term. Go check out the site… send them feedback…give em shout outs on your blogs….lets make sure that these folks can at least make a run of it.
Walk About In The Fog
I was up and at them really early this morning so i thought that me, a digital camera or two, and a random assortment of film cameras, should go hang out in the dark fog for a bit.
Coal Harbour marina near the rowing club. This is as shot there was no fancy photoshop work to make the left black, it was just really dark there.

A point on the sea wall in Stanley Park. This was super hard to focus on because it was so dark. It was to far away for me to focus on my laser pointer like I normally do, so in the end I took a few at higher apertures and then I basically focus bracketed about ten photos to make sure that I had it. You can tell that this one is a higher aperture shot because of the lack of vignetting

This is the lighthouse at Brockton Point. These silly seagulls kept trying over and over to land on the top of the lighthouse, but it was really slippery and they would just end up sliding off. Super humorous to say the least, and again as shot here.

This was a raven hanging on some beach art at English Bay. I love how the fog turns the background bokah into nothing. I hope to run about again tomorrow morning as well because this fog is sheduled to take off in a day or two.
The Lot Is Full
off to prepare for todays awesomest wedding show ever!! Come down and see us all at the Heritage Hall for Indie I Do.
Indie I Do – Vancouver’s Alternative Wedding Show
So I guess that the night before is probably not the best time to be blogging about this but I have been a little busy so tonight is when it is. Vancouver wedding show Indie I Do is an alternative wedding show that my darling wife is co-producing with Lotus Events. It is shaping up to be an awesome show so come down and check us out tomorrow (Saturday Jan 17th) at the Heritage Hall -3102 Main Street in Vancouver. I will be manning the booth for my day jorb and there will be tones of other awesome vendors from dress makers to burlesque dancers and all stops in between. I have even been assured that there will be a blue mohawk in the vendor list. Don’t know what they do but there is a blue mohawk somewhere. Tix are 20 Bux at the door, so come check us out even if your single and just dreaming of getting hitched someday.
1 commentThursday Is A Work Day :(
And not a super awesome snowboarding day like it was yesterday. The weather was awesome and the snow was quite good once it all softened up around mid day. I went up sky chair for the first time ever and what a crazy crazy view form up there.
Today’s photos are from the other day’s photo wander, I am thinking I am going to try and get away for a couple hours on Sunday and do some more wandering about perhaps New West or something, who knows, anyway I have a client soon so I best find a clean shirt or something.

My First Photowander Of The New Year!

Today I had some out and about errands to run, so as always I took my camera along with me. For all those that are not in the know about me, I actually almost* always have a camera with me, especially when venturing out into the world. And I don’t mean ‘well my iPhone has a camera built in it so I always have one‘ sort of always have one, I mean I am carrying around some sort of SLR and at least two lenses with me at all times. I wasn’t out walking for very long today, perhaps two hours or so including the half hour that I waited at the post office and the other random errands that I ran, but that is all the time one really needs. Photo wandering for me is my camera and some awesome music and that is really all that I need to relax and unwind. I would recommend it to anyone. The other thing that I would recommend is snowboarding! In fact, it is something that I plan on partaking in all day tomorrow. I am headed up to cypress so if anyone else is unemployed, self employed, feels the need to play hookie, or simply has the day off come join me.
* I sometimes do not take a camera swimming although with my ewa bag I often will!
1 commentSnowboarding = Awesome

Yup playing on all sorts of new snow. At least it is awesome until it freezes.
Snowboarding Kicked My Ass Tonight
It was super icy at Cypress tonight and while I expected it to be less then ideal conditions i wasn’t really prepared for this! Its funny because I was getting to that cocky stage of my snowboard education where i thought that I was an awesome boarder and that nothing could phase me. well tonight I was knocked down a few pegs while it was icy it was rideable on some of the more tame runs but even on green runs i was taking it really easy. I thought that I could ride anything as long as I wasn’t in a hurry but today was on the very edge of my comfort/experience for sure!
Crazy all day shoot is tomorrow I should sleep but I will leave you with some buried cars on the mountain

I Am Really Behind On All Things Photography Related.
I am so behind that I am finally getting around to looking at some 2700 (that number is a little high because there is a bunch of coaxial in Stop motion in there) photos that I took on our scooter camping trek to Salt Spring Island way back in July 2007 (and yes I am aware that it is 2009)
These two stuck out so I will blog them.
This is a long exposure of our beer fridge
This field ruined all our shoes and socks
In other news Snowboarding was the Suck today as there was all sorts of crazy rain coming down on Cypress and it was so foggy out that while riding the chair lift i couldn’t see the chair in front of me. It took me forever to come down a green run because you just couldn’t see anything so I bailed and came home instead. I tired to get all the people that i was meeting on the hill to come and eat Enchiladas and watch snowboarding videos but the rain kept the snowboarding portion of the North Shore Crew at home. Your guys loss really the Enchiladas were the awesome! :)
2 commentsiPhone cameras can be cool.
So I am not quite on the mountain just yet this morning I have a spot of work stuff to take care of so the mountain will happen soon as that all gets taken care of. :) However, I did have a bit of time to kill this morning while my lovely wife attends her weekly cult meeting so I figured that I would play a little with some iPhone camera app’s. I have a couple of new ones that are quite cool like double exposure which is an app that does what only photoshop or film can do. As the name implies it will double expose a shot for you. Neat stuff really.
The other cool app that have been using a fair amount is Steady shot. This one uses the accelerometers (sp?) in your iPhone to determine when the camera is steady and it will take it when you are holding very still and only then. Neat app to get rid of blurry photos due to camera shake So this is a shot(s) that I took of first beach just now and ran though all sorts of programs to get this. Oh cult meeting looks to be wrapping up so ya see you all on the mountain today if you are going.
Blogged from my iPhone
