This is the Okotoks Erratic near Okotoks on Highway 7. It was really funny cause we were driving along and josh is like I think there is a big rock around here that is supposed to be cool. I am not really sure where this is but I have heard of a big rock! and I was like that one! pointing to this huge rock jutting out from the otherwise flat prairie! We were going to drink a big rock on the big rock (I don’t think anyone has cause the rock was littered with Kokanee & Pilsener cans) but being that I was hungover from the night before and we had a whack of driving ahead, I declined! Anyway go here for more info
4 commentsI Have Been Missing I Know!
So I know that I have been non-existent this last week! I have been busy alright! :) I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel though! My Calgary Banff trip somehow made me really behind and I have been playing catch-up ever since! That said Dadoes’ for breakfast or dinner or something soon???!! We have a wedding today so instead of driveling on and on about nothing here is a photo of the windiest place that I have ever been in my life!

I can stick my holga fisheye on all kinds of things
So I have a fisheye lens for my holga and lately I have been sticking it on every camera I can find including my Finepix s700 point & shoot. Good times indeed :) I can also stick it on my video camera, and if i am feeling very adventurous i can even hold it up to my eye and walk about!

What you don’t see in this photo is the large fat man in a wife beater dumping ashtrays and the last dredges of beer from his empties out the window a moment before the photo was taken. The ground was covered in Cig butts and i am sure it reeked of moldy beer!

The White Stripes Meg Camera!
So I was a sucker and bought the Meg camera from the White Stripes/lomography! The funny thing was I didn’t buy it because I am a huge White Stripes fan! I bought it because it was red! (well actually it is orange which is even better for I Heart Orange) I hate the Diana+ camera’s awful greenish teal thing that it has going on.

I have been really intrigued with this camera since I first read about it but I was slow in getting it because of its awful colour. That might sound petty or something but what can I say? I am shallow I guess :) The photos that the Meg/Diana takes are awesome. I think that every type of plastic/toy camera has its own unique look and the Meg/Diana is absolutely no exception. I have only run one roll though it as of yet but I am happy with the results. There is a bit of conflicting info out there about the specs of the camera. I read in one place that the shutter is 1/60th and others that it is 1/125th The aperture is even more conflicting! I read that it is everything from f9 to f22. Having developed my first roll and using a light meter I think I may have a good idea of what it is. I would say that the shutter is 1/60thish and the apertures run around f9, f11 & f16 the pin hole I was estimating it about f128 but upon inspection of the film I would say it is quite a bit more than that. (i am going to try 161 because that is the highest that my light meter will go!) I didn’t get a lot of great shots out of this first roll but that is to be somewhat expected The second roll is about half done and if I quit blogging and get some of my work done I may get a chance to finish it off today :)
The other unique thing about the Meg/Diana is the photo size! You can take 12 square shots on a roll of 120 just like the Holga or Seagull! Or you can add the film mask and take 16 square shots (it is the same as shooting 6×4.5 only square.) You don’t use a lot of the film with the 16 shot mask and the photos tend to overlap a lot.

I think that I am going to try shooting the smaller 16 shot format but wind it for 12 shots. If my idea is correct I should be able to centre them in the 6×6 negative carrier with my enlarger and make prints with a nice sloppy black box around them. The classic vineting that happens with most plastic cameras is more apparent on the full frame 12 shot mode so i am told so its a tough call as to what I wanna shoot.
Now while plastic cameras are supposed to be known for light leaks I can say that it has never been a problem for me. Never, that is until now! I did have about 3 or 4 photos on this roll that were ruined due to light leaks :( the camera was banged around a lot on the trip so they could be an isolated incident but I may need to bust out the electrical tape. All said and done the first roll was good not great but good, but then again the same was true wtih the Seagull, and it truly kicks ass now! It’s all about experimenting anyway right!?

Polaroid of the Chess Playing Dude in Calgary.
Well I am back from our epic road trip to Banff and Calgary! Josh and I left Thursday morning (only 45min late :p) and fired out towards Banff stopping along the way for photo glory. We both stocked up on film for our various Polaroid & film cameras, as well as I had my Canon nearby for the entire trip. (I do endeavour to get some of these photos on the blog before I am 50) The actual purpose of our road trip was to go and see Matthew Good play in Banff. (Not that Matt Good reads my blog but I would totally pay 5 bux for a improv show by the way!!) It was an awesome show filled with tonnes of witty banter! It was funny for the second time ever I decided that it would be best to leave my camera behind! I did for Regina Spektor and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I wasn’t overly concerned about jockeying for position or where the best photo would be, I just sat back and enjoyed it! The same held true here I had a good time with out any cameras! We crashed out at the Best Western in Banff and I swear we were the only ones in the hotel! I was like a bad horror movie really. They had lots of coffee two steps from our door so I drank coffee most of the night. :) After Banff we meandered off to Calgary for a few days to hang out with some of Josh’s friends including A from the Awesome Unit (long story) and Kim. Good time all around! There was some Calgary photo wandering which including this.
This is a photo I have been waiting to take for 4 or 5 years :) It has fond memories from my days in Calgary! Mostly involving some beer and some late night shenanigans but fond none the less!

This is a shot of this random lake on the Transcanada. I liked it and I like it even more in Polaroid form! I must get back to work but there will be more to come!
2 commentsRoad trip to See Matthew Good in Banff!
So Josh & I decided a while back that a road trip to see Matthew Good play in Banff was in order. So we did and I am in Banff! I took a lot of Polaroid’s along the way! But a long drive, a late couple of nights followed by early mornings, and a single beer have made me very tired! So I am going to sleep now in my cheap hotel.
My Diana/Meg Is Nearly Here!
Yup according to Fed-EX it should be entering Canada very soon me thinks!

For those that have no idea what the hell I am talking about The White Stripes and Lomography hooked up to release a White Stripes Version of the famous Holga and the Diana and I bought a Diana/Meg. Now I hope the it arrives before we go to Banff to see Matt Good

I Heart UPS!
Really I do!! So I am waiting for a package filled with new (well used but new to me) camera goodies to arrive via UPS, I get up this morning and I refresh the tracking page to see this :|
THE RECEIVER DID NOT HAVE FUNDS AVAILABLE ON THE 1ST DELIVERY ATTEMPT.
A 2ND DELIVERY ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE
I am like umm….. and after confirming with Miranda that I didn’t turn the UPS guy away in my sleep, I have to say that I am glad that whomever they did try to deliver the package to didn’t have any money!
Much phoning and yelling has yet to materialize my package, but I am hopeful that it will get delivered to someone! Josh was kind enough to provide me with this comic that expresses everything I am feeling right now in a nice succinct nutshell.
Update!! They (UPS) have informed me that the driver will be trying again in 10min! I will try and see where the package nearly ended up :)
Update!! The UPS guy came and fumbled around a lie that was part way between “That is just what I wrote down” and “I tried this morning and there was no answer!” OHHHhhhhh so angry with them!

In happier news M is now the proud owner of a Mamiya RB67! I got her a matching camera (I won’t allow matching clothing but a matching camera that’s ok!) because she has half a fridge full of Chocolate Polaroid film! She thinks that it really is a bowling ball with the name Homer! But it isn’t really! I am removing barriers to her creativeness! Oh well it came and it is fun.
