Mikes Car

This is a shot of mikes car in some random work site that we stumbled across. I was able to brave the mosquitoes that were swarming in the thousands and not giving us any peace to grab this shot while mike and rob ran in circles in a feeble attempt to keep their blood to themselves

Coffee at Tims

Well here I am at a Tim’s having a coffee, and wondering where the weekend went to? Yesterday my big plan was to take photos all day and instead I didn’t get out with the camera till about 8:30 pm. Not to say that yesterday wasn’t unproductive, I sorted and renamed Friday’s wedding & we drove about shopping, and other stuff. I guess I am just down cause it was not what I had planned. OUCH!!!! That was me getting 3rd degree burns from my coffee. Anyway, in have been reading a new book lately. The Tao of Photography by Philippe L. Gross, S.I. Shapiro & it is quite interestingly applying Taoist philosophy to photography. Thus far in the book (i haven’t gotten far) they are discussing how the clouded mind and preconceptions will effect what you take photos of and how you go about it. It is an interesting book because instead of talking about how to effectively operate your camera and understand light as most photography books do, it discusses what you are pointing the lens at. It is all about challenging preconceptions and learning to see the world though new eyes, the eyes of a child so to speak unclouded by media & pre-determined notions of beauty. I think it is interesting for the when I look at the photo of the sunset that I posted earlier today, I can understand the basic meaning of this idea. It is supposed to be a beautiful photo of the sun falling but what I see is not thought provoking at all. Ahh well here I go waxing intellectual again. It looks like it will be an interesting read, if I ever have time again in this life time :)

Weekend of photography

Here ye here ye I am here by designating the weekend of July 9th & 10th 2005 the official weekend of photography! This Entire Weekend is now a ‘take more photos of Edmonton and the surrounding area in a two day period then I have taken in the last 6 months’ weekend. For it will be the last weekend that I will have the pleasure of having in at least 5 to 6 weeks! I am inviting all photography types to join me in this exhausting marathon of creative craziness! My itinerary starts Saturday morning and will extend to the late evening on Sunday night. My preliminary goal is to achieve a huge cross section of subjects including street photography, landscape, post modern abstract, industrial as well as anything else that strikes my fancy. I am beginning planning of the weekend but I am open to any creative suggestions that one may have.

Saturday
5:00 am – Sunrise
I am thinking of multiple locations for such an event but I am leaning towards a canola field in refinery row.

8:00 am – China Town and Area
A brisk walk around the China town area in the pleasant morning light.

10:00 am – 104th Street Outdoor Market
They close down a section of 104th street near 102nd ave for a Saturday street market.

12:00 am - LRT and City Centre
Play a game of cat and mouse with bored security guards that have nothing better to do then harass me.

2:00pm - Walk to Whyte Avenue via the High Level Bridge.

5:00 pm – Open for suggestions

10:00pm – Whyte Ave for photos of streets full of yahoos :)

Sunday

5:00 am – all those sunrise places that I was thinking about for Saturday Morning but didn’t get!

7:00 am – City hall and the new Churchill square.

Afternoon – Street Fest on Whyte Ave
Yup they are going to close down Whyte ave for the afternoon and have a street market/festival thing!

On and On and On…
More to come as I figure it out but for now I need to get ready for this wedding.

Canada Day!!!

Always a good time is to be had on Canada Day! We went to catch the fire works at the legislature and then walked Whyte Ave taking photos of random people. This is one of those photos.
